A Guide to Benidorm’s Best Beaches

We can talk about the food, the culture, the history, and the host of well-known attractions and highlights of Benidorm all we like, but it’s undeniable that the thing most people come here for is the opportunity to enjoy its beautiful beaches. And there’s a very good reason for that: they’re pretty amazing! This buzzing, vibrant city on Spain’s famous Costa Blanca is hugely popular with visitors from all over the world, and although we might be slightly biased, we think it’s the best place in the world!
Come, Stay, Enjoy the Beaches!
One of the (many) great things about Benidorm is that whether you come for three days, a week or a month, the city and surrounding area is so accessible it makes it easy to take advantage of all that it has to offer. When you choose to stay in La Caseta Apartments you’ll have your pick of several beaches practically on the doorstep, as well as others that are slightly further away, but still easily reachable (and worth the effort).
The neighbourhood around La Caseta Apartments has everything you want and more, so once you’ve settled in and got your bearings it’s time to hit the beach! Or should we say beachES…
Levante Beach
Let’s start with the most popular: big, beautiful Playa de Levante is pretty much right in the centre of the city, with its wide, two-kilometre crescent-shaped shoreline attracting hosts of sun-worshippers, families, water sports enthusiasts and youthful fun-lovers.
Backed by a typical Spanish promenade lined with all manner of cafes, shops, bars, nightclubs and restaurants, the beach itself has the designated “Blue Flag” standard and is extremely well facilitated. You can hire sunbeds and umbrellas, and there are multiple toilets available close by (a bonus for families with younger children). If you’re looking for tranquility and solitude, it’s certainly not for you — but if you’re looking for unbridled fun in the sun, you’ve found it!
Get there: The brilliant central location of La Caseta apartments puts you a five-minute drive from Levante Beach. If you’re walking it’ll take 15-20 minutes, cycling around 5-7 minutes, or you can take an L1 bus from nearby Av. Alfonso Puchades.
Poniente Beach
The Blue Flag Playa de Poniente is probably the picture-postcard view of Benidorm you’ve seen and loved. It’s the largest in the region, but it has a quieter and slightly more laid back ambience than its neighbour, Levante. This is probably the reason it’s considered more of a “locals’” beach, and its glorious three-kilometres of shoreline makes it a wonderful place to take a long stroll with your toes in the Mediterranean. It too has the benefits of being well-facilitated with amenities and backed by a promenade of the requisite shops, bars and restaurants, along with children’s playgrounds and reduced mobility access.
Get there: From La Caseta Apartments, it’s just a 10-minute drive, but to walk will take around 45 minutes. Those without a car might prefer to hop on an L2 bus from Av. Alfonso Puchades.
Mal Pas Beach
Mal Pas could well be the love-child of Levante and Poniente. Set against a backdrop of the Old Town (smack in the middle of the two beaches above), it’s a gem of a discovery that, incredibly, continues to retain its sleepy atmosphere. With a gorgeous outlook over Benidorm Island, the small beach is part of a marine reserve, with its thriving sea bed a fascinating feature. While there’s not the facilities of the other city beaches, it does have toilets and showers, so you could pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a wonderfully relaxing day there without the presence of crowds. Due to the nature of its sea bed it’s a popular place with local divers, but even snorkelling will give you a thrilling insight into the local marine life here.
Get there: La Caseta Apartments puts you very close to lovely Mal Pas, and it’s just a short ten-minute stroll away! The perfect way to enjoy sunrise or sunset…
Tio Ximo Cove
For those days when you want to get away from the busy-ness of Benidorm’s city beaches, heading a little further north will get you everything you want and more. With a stunning backdrop of cliffs, Tio Ximo sits at the foot of the protected Sierra Heralda Natural Park. Carved from the coast into a small (60m) cove, the idyllic pebbly beach is a favoured area for snorkelling - again due to its thriving sea bed, with its crystal-clear waters hosting an incredibly diverse array of marine life. Because it’s small, don’t expect the facilities of the larger beaches. BYO food and drink, and there are no toilets.
Get there: You can only reach this lovely cove by foot, but it’s not too far from Levante Beach (which is easily accessible to La Caseta Apartments, see above), and there’s an easy-to-navigate path that takes you along the top of the cliffs and delivers spectacular views along the way. A wooden walkway takes you the rest of the way down to the cove.
Cala de Almadrava
A little further north again is Cala de Almadrava, another small rocky cove that comes under the protection of the Sierra Heralda Natural Park. It’s a little trickier to access, but that just means fewer people go there. It has lovely clear waters and you can see the marine life that thrives in the sea bed without even snorkelling - although if you do have a mask and flippers you’ll be able to get a closer view.
Get there: About 1 km further on from Tio Ximo, this lovely fine sand and pebble beach is accessible from a carpark at Carrer dos Calas, then you’ll need to navigate down a bit of a slope to get to the sand. It genuinely feels a million miles away from busy Benidorm, so is fantastic for those days when you fancy a bit of peace and quiet.
Staying in La Caseta Apartments puts you front row to a host of lovely beaches (even more than mentioned above), so it’s an ideal choice for a short three-day break or a longer two-week stay. The superb location also means that shops, supermarkets, restaurants and public transport are right on the doorstep, making planning your holiday so much easier.
