Day Trips from La Caseta Apartments, Benidorm

One of the reasons Benidorm is such a favoured holiday destination is its ability to please everyone — and that’s no cliche! From young families, teenagers, and groups of nightclub-loving friends, to mature visitors looking to soak up a bit of culture with their sand, sea and suntan, this fun-filled gem of Spain’s Costa Blanca really doesn't know how to disappoint. On a budget? Doesn’t matter! Want to splash out? No problem! Looking for beaches, restaurants, shopping, culture and history? Be our guest!
While you could spend your entire holiday within the limits of the resort if that’s what you choose, staying in a holiday apartment in Benidorm like the brilliant La Caseta, means that there’s a vast array of day trips and excursions at your disposal if you want to explore a little further afield.
Top Day Trips from Benidorm
Here are two day trips that we think get top marks across the board. Not only are they easy to get to from your accommodation at La Caseta, they each offer a unique insight into the fabulous Costa Brava region. Ready for a great day out? Off we go…
Valencia
As one of Spain’s most renowned cities, a day trip to Valencia is an absolute must — particularly for those interested in history, culture and architecture (but the beaches are pretty wonderful too). It’s relatively close, but you definitely should allow a whole day if you’re to make the most of your visit. There’s a host of attractions to explore, most of which can be discovered on foot once you’re in the city centre. Pick up a map from the information centre and get walking around these, and many other, highlights.
The Cathedral of Valencia is an impressive sight even from the outside — but inside you’ll discover some of Spain’s most important art and artifacts. It’s home to the Holy Chalice and also stunning religious works by Gallo and Maella. If you’ve got the energy and a head for heights you can also climb the Miguelete Tower.
The Barrio del Carmen is a world within a world, with its charming network of cobbled streets and hidden lanes. Stroll around and soak up the history that emanates from every corner in its beautiful medieval architecture, along with remnants of its Islamic heritage, such as the ruins of the Arab Wall.
If you’ve got a rental car (or take a taxi), Valencia is about an hour and a half away by road. But taking a train is also a very relaxing option, with plenty to see out the window on the way. The journey is around two hours each way. You could also choose to book a package day excursion, which will include transport by coach and a guide around the highlights of the city.
Guadalest and…
El Castell de Guadalest is a beautiful little Moorish mountain village only about half an hour by road from Benidorm. It’s a popular tourist destination, but far from taking away from its authentic ambience, its vibrancy adds to its considerable charms. Again, exploring on foot is the only way to go if you really want to immerse in the history and culture, but the main attraction is the castle.
Dating back to the 11th-century, the Castle of L'Alcazaiba presides over the town from its elevated vantage and is the defining symbol of its heritage. If you walk up to the top, you’ll pass gorgeous whitewashed buildings adorned with floral displays, adding to the picturesque scenery. The views from the castle ruins are spectacular — all the way out to the three highest peaks in the surrounding region, Sierra Aitana, Sierra Serrella and Sierra Xorta. There are also a couple of great museums in the town if the history has captured your imagination.
… Algar Waterfalls
The second half of this day trip will take you another half hour’ drive to the truly magnificent Fonts de l’Algar. This spectacular natural area comprises numerous waterfalls of all different sizes and heights, connected by pools, springs and channels of azure water that flows between rock walls and lush vegetation. You can stroll along well-curated paths and walkways taking in the sights, then dive in for a dip in any of the designated safe swimming spots. If you want to get the full scope and enjoyment of the site, you’ll need at least two hours — but longer is even better! As a highlight of the region, Fonts de l’Algar is very well equipped with plenty of parking, toilets, and picnic areas.
You can visit both Guadalest and Algar Falls in a day on either a self-drive excursion or a package tour, which is offered by multiple operators out of Benidorm.
These two suggestions are just some of the amazing places you can visit while you’re staying in a holiday apartment in Benidorm. If you have the luxury of time on your side, there are plenty more, including:
- Alicante
- Benissa and Cave of Las Calaveras
- Javea
- Villajoyosa
- Calpe
- Denia
But we might leave those for another blog post, so stay tuned!
